Animal Control Division
The City of Clever Animal Control Division responsibilities include:
- Issuing animal tags
- Catching animals that are at large
- Investigating neglect cases, animal bites, and barking nuisance
- Enforcement of City and State animal laws

Tag information
The City of Clever Municipal Code, Chapter 205 requires that all dogs within the city limits of Clever be annually licensed. Dogs are required to have a licensed tag attached to the collar when in public.
You may stop by the City of Clever City Hall to collect a license form or print out your own. The form along with a current photograph, proof of current rabies vaccination, and spay or neuter certificate will need to be submitted. Previous records, pictures, or information cannot be used when renewing a registration. The City does charge a small fee for registration. The form along with all information will need to be turned in to City Hall.
Vicious Dog
In accordance with the City of Clever Code, Section 205, Vicious dogs are any of the following.
1. Any dog, whether or not running at large and whether or not unrestrained, that without provocation has bitten any person not a trespasser causing serious physical injury to that person.
2. Any unrestrained dog, whether or not running at large, that without provocation has attempted to bite any person not a trespasser which would cause serious physical injury to that person.
3. Any unrestrained dog, whether or not running at large, that without provocation has placed any person not a trespasser in apprehension of immediate serious physical injury.
4. Any dog that has killed another dog or other domestic animal without provocation.
If your dog has been proclaimed vicious there are provisions that must be followed.
The dog will be required to be on a leash and have a muzzle when outside of a confinement or kennel. The dog will be required to be confined indoors or in a secured outdoor enclosure that can be looked.
The owner must display signs using the word “Beware of Dog”.

Keeping of Six (6) or Less Chickens Within the City
1. The maximum number of chickens allowed is six per tract of land regardless of how many dwelling units are on the tract.
2. Only female chickens shall be allowed. There shall be no restriction on chicken breeds.
3. Any person who keeps, harbors or owns any chickens within the City shall annually register such premises with the Code Enforcement Officer or his/her designee. The registration cost shall be $5.00 and completion of the premises registration form.

Permanent Identification
An embedded microchip provides the highest insurance that you pet will be returned home if they ever become lost. A collar with a City of Clever tag is another way to ensure your pet is returned.
Spay or Neuter
Prevention of over population is important for our community. Having a pet spayed or neutered can help curb undesirable behaviors such as roaming and excessive barking.
Training, Physical Care, Socialization, and Medical Attention
Ensure your pets stays health, plays well with others, and behaves appropriate in social situations.
